The picture shows a flying cart, the painter’s favourite motif. However, in this picture, the image has a symbolic meaning. Scared off by the cart, the crows in the foreground are flying towards the viewer like harbingers of misfortune, death. The sky, painted red and yellow, adds to the atmosphere of disquiet, and the driver in the sled has been replaced by a supernatural thing in flames. (Dalia Tarandaitė).
