Affairs of the Polish Nation during the Reign of Henry Valois, the King of Poles and Later of Gaul by the Castellan of Lviv and author of political and philosophical works Andrzej Maksymilian Fredro (1620–1679) describes political events in the Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth after the death of King Sigismund Augustus (from 1572 to 1576). In 1573, the Sejm made an agreement, the very first pacta conventa, with a candidate to the throne Henry Valois (1551–1589). On 15 December 1574, Henry Valois was crowned and became the first elected ruler of Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth. On 18 June 1574, after the death of the King of France Charles IX, Henry Valois travelled to France, where he became King of France.
