Jędrzej Sniadecki’s Introduction into Chemistry was the first chemistry textbook in Lithuania. It was first published in Vilnius in 1800, with later editions in 1807 and 1816–1817 in Vilnius and Warsaw. The book is marked with the seal of the Library of the Vilnius Diocese Priest Seminary. It was printed in Józef Zawadzki’s printing house, which operated in Vilnius in 1805–1940. The works published by this printing house were notable for their high quality print. Between 1805 and 1865, it printed over 1,500 works: textbooks, calendars, religious, scientific, literary and other texts in Latin, Polish, Russian, German, and Lithuanian.
